Not a big fan of the aftermarket 17's that the PO installed on my Fiero, so I doctored them up a bit. Pretty happy with how they came out.
I’m actually thinking about replacing them with some 16" RPF1's in the near future because I think they’d look sweet and I bet going down a wheel size would improve ride quality significantly.

Finding tires for 16" would be the only issue... shouldn’t be too bad, though, there are BFG Sport Comp IIs for one.

Those look like the factory wheels for bugeye WRXs.

Tire Rack has 171 different tires available in 205/55/16, so I don’t think that’ll be an issue.

Oh okay, that’s good then. It’s once you go wider that it becomes a pain. Still, I wish I could at least have the chance to buy PSS or Potenza Pole Position...

As mentioned by the other guy, tire availability would be my worry with 16s. 171 options is good, but of those there might be 5 or 6 that I would like personally, I’m sure. Anyways, the drawing is continuing to look good!

Thanks!
It’s actually the same size that my Mazda3 runs when I have the 16" steelies installed. Plenty of great options for summers and at least Blizzaks for winters.

Just checked Tire Rack, and in just summer tires... yep, 9 models that I like. That surprises me! Good selection! I made things difficult on myself, I suppose, by going to a staggered setup. My car came with aftermarket 15's that I don’t have a problem with, but the tires were about 1.5" short, and 15" tire selection is non-existent.

I’ve considered going with the staggered setup the 88 GT came with from the factory, but I’m not sure I want to go through the hassle of having two different sizes of wheels and tires.

I don’t know if the 88 GT/Formula wheels will work on a 84-87 car, if your plan was to use factory wheels. The new suspension changed a lot of the geometry, and the wheels have different offsets. The 87 GT used 6.5" if I remember correct) wheels all around, with a 205/215 f/r staggered setup.
I have a lot more suspension parts I want to add, including a rear sway bar... so I’ve got 215/255 to try to mitigate any snap-oversteer before it becomes a problem.
I guess I thought you were selling your auto car? Or is that still in the plans, and you want to have parts you can use on a manual one when you find it?

I was going to look at a 5-speed/2.5, but I realized it was overpriced and had some scary mods done to the interior. The plan right now is to find a 5-speed/2.8 car, scavenge any parts I can off my old car, and probably just junk it. It has extensive rust damage in the rear, the trans is going, the engine has trouble lasting through a 20 mile round trip, and the body is in pretty rough shape.
But I figure that while I’m looking for the new car, I can go ahead and start getting ready for it.

I don’t think you’re very close, but this one has had my attention since it was posted. It looks similar to what my plans will hopefully culminate to (before I engine swap) on my 85 SE 2M6... It would be awesome to see where it goes off to, I’d love to drive it to compare.

That looks like a steal for $3500. Everything I’ve looked at around here is in worse condition and they want more for it. The best candidate I’ve found so far is this 86 GT 5-speed: https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/5639534594…
By comparison, they want $9K for this: https://fortwayne.craigslist.org/cto/5662851240…

I saw that car has Eibach springs, do you have any experience with those? I’d love to kill that awful wheel gap and I’ve heard good things about Eibach lowering springs for my Civic and Mazda.

Crikey, and here I thought this was overpriced due to the miles: http://eauclaire.craigslist.org/cto/5617036997…
It sounds like you should search a little further out on cl.
There are some high-priced ones... http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/wsh/cto/563488…
But it seems to be a constant mix that you have to watch up here. There are ratted out ones, generally for cheap. There are minty fresh ones, for high money. And then there are my favorites, in between. Some are still overpriced, but some people don’t have their heads in the clouds.

I’ll let you know when I install mine. The front suspension on my car was modified by the previous owner, with good quality parts... but he didn’t seem to think that the rear needed anything. And since Eibach is about the only one that still has springs available, short of making coilovers, I will be putting them on my car hopefully soon. Also, if you plan on getting a set, there was about a 6 week wait from placing the order to get them delivered when I bought through Tire Rack... it’s not a high demand product.
Picture is how I sit now.

That Formula though...
Kinda makes me wish I could justify dropping $7500 on a fun car right now.

And it’s yellow, which was 88 only... I have a yellow 04 GTO, a yellow 05 SV650, and a yellow 15 Colorado... I really *should* have a yellow Formula Fiero.

Haha. It would compliment your fleet nicely.
